Thoracic surgery includes the diagnosis and surgical treatment of the lungs, the mediastinum ("mediastinum"), the pleura, the diaphragm and the thoracic wall (rib fractures, tumors, deformities of the chest wall).

The focus is on the treatment of tumors of the lung (lung cancer), the mediastinum (thymomas, schwannomas, cysts) and the pleura (pneumothorax, pleural empyema, pleural mesothelioma).

Primary location is Bern: Hirslanden Klinik Beau-Site and Lindenhofspital (hospital can be chosen by the patient or referring physician)

Basel Claraspital, Head of Thoracic Surgery: 1 day of surgery per week and consultation hours

Additional locations on request as part of the consultant activity:

  • Bürgerspital Solothurn (consultation hours and operations)
  • Olten Cantonal Hospital (consultation hours and operations)
  • Thun Hospital (simple operations)
